EyeCorps, a collaborative group of partners and educators, is advancing ophthalmology training in Tanzania through its ongoing partnership focused on expanding access to high-quality eye care across East Africa. The initiative targets a significant need, as preventable blindness from conditions like cataracts and glaucoma remains widespread in the region.
A key barrier identified by faculty and residents has been limited access to essential diagnostic tools. In many training settings, learners share equipment or rely on lenses that are damaged or outdated, making consistent hands-on practice difficult.
Support from Corza Medical is helping address this gap through the donation of diagnostic 90D/78D and gonioscopy lenses. These tools allow residents to more effectively practice critical examination techniques, including indirect fundoscopy and gonioscopy, which are essential for diagnosing and managing glaucoma and other eye diseases.
The impact is already visible. Many current faculty members once trained under similar programs with limited resources and are now teaching the next generation with improved tools and capabilities. With approximately 100 residents gaining access to these lenses, training programs are strengthening, and future ophthalmologists are better equipped to serve their communities.
